The entry deadline for the 2012 European Championships in Sofia (Bulgaria) has passed this Tuesday. A record of 649 players from 29 nations are represented at the tournament played from 17 to 22 September 2012.

A week of pulsating badminton action at the Armeets Arena will be played in the age groups 35+, 40+, 45+, 50+, 55+, 60+, 65+ and 70+. The 70+ age group will be played for the very first time in Sofia. It is expected to have more than 850 matches during the whole competition.

The event will be staged in a brand new in the centre of Sofia, and this fantastic venue will certainly offer the best possible conditions for the many players coming to the Bulgarian capital. Among the participants are also four current Presidents of BEC's Member Associations (Austria, Bulgaria, Portugal and Turkey).

Badminton Europe General Secretary Brian Agerbak said today:

“It is a terrific entry and shows great respect for the tradition of the tournament as well as reflecting how important the players consider the European Senior Championships."
