Ivanov and Sozonov complete title hat-trick

World No. 11 Vladimir Ivanov and Ivan Sozonov (pictured) completed a hat-trick of Russian Open Grand Prix men’s doubles titles on Sunday when the Russians claimed an easy-won 11-6, 11-9, 11-5 victory over the number two seeds Kah Ming Chooi/Low Juan Shen of Malaysia.

Ivanov and Sozonov’s victory give them their 7th Russian Open men’s doubles crown and their first title of the year 2017.

Sergey Girant took men’s singles title

Sunday’s men’s singles final saw an all-Russian affair as Vladimir Malkov, the number two seed and 2009 champion of this tournament, met his compatriot Sergay Sirant, the world no. 88. And with the hard-fought five-game victory of Sirant there is a new name on the Russian Open roll of honour.  The 23 year-old Sergey Sirant won 13-11, 11-5, 6-11, 7-11, 11-4 to clinch his first title of 2017.

Home favourite Evgeniya Kosetskaya beat top seed Soniia Cheah of Malaysia in the women’s singles final as she triumphed 11-9, 5-11, 11-5, 5-11, 11-4 to clinch the title at the Sport Hall Olympic.

Maiden title for Malaysian mixed pair

Mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon/Cheah Yee See of Malaysia have won the Russian Open for their first career title.

In just their third tournament, Peng Soon-Yee See clinched a convincing 11-8, 13-11, 11-3 win over Japan’s Keiichiro Matsui/Akane Araki in the mixed doubles final in Vladivostok.

The women’s doubles final saw Akane Araki and Aoi Matsuda win an all-Japanese encounter against Yuho Imai and Minami Kawashima 11-6, 6-11, 11-7, 7-11, 11-5.
