Russia's best men's doubles shuttler Vladimir Ivanov created a big surprise by taking the US Open men's singles title in California. The tall Ivanov, who is number 44 in the current BWF world rankings, beat the top seed Takuda Uema of Japan in two games 22-20,21-17 on Saturday to celebrate his first Grand Prix title in the singles category.

His compatriots and former European Champions, Nina Vislova and Valeri Sorokina moved into the women's doubles finals of the 120.000 US Dollars event but lost to the top seeded Japanese duo in two straight games.
