What better way to end a full week of training than with a team tournament! The players were divided into 8 teams. Each tie was based on 5 matches; two men’s singles, a women’s singles, a mixed double and a double free of choice. The point system used for the tournament was cumulated, meaning that the player/pair wins when they reach 42 first. So, if the first set’s score ends 21/15, the second set would begin with that score.

The teams played against each other in two groups. The best two teams in each group made it into the semi-finals, while the last two played for final ranking. The final team tie was: Team 1 vs Team 5, and the 2017 BEC Summer School Champions was won by Team 5; Alexandra Troy (IRL), Halla Maria Gustafsdottir (ISL), Adam Pringle (SCO), Miha Masten (SLO), and,  Andrej Antoska (SVK).

The morning was also a serious matter for the coaches as it was their last session of the Summer School. BWF’s Coach Education Level 2 is targeted for Level 1 coaches, and players with national/international badminton experience. A Level 2-coach has been taught: coaching principles; how to coach (level 2 coaching techniques); what to coach technical, tactical and physical elements with underpinning scientific principles and knowledge; planning and delivery of annual training and competition programmes for individual badminton players.

The final delivery is assisted by the staff coaches where the coaches should be able to show that they can construct and deliver annual training and competition plans, produce individual training plans and programmes underpinned by sports science principles, and, also, effectively manage groups of players up to elite performance level. In the afternoon, the coaches received their individual feedback where the staff coaches determined if each coach would pass the Level 2 course.

After dinner, everybody gathered for a big party to round off the week of a successful BEC Summer School.
