It is with great excitement that Badminton Europe can announce the first out of the two assistant coaches attached to the Centre of Excellence. The former player, Nicola Cerfontyne from England is joining the centre in Holbaek, assisting head coach Jeroen van Dijk.

Cerfontyne, 29, will be moving to Denmark to help start up the centre in Holbaek:
“I am very excited to be joining the Centre of Excellence it's an innovative project and a great opportunity to work with players from all over Europe. I believe the experience I have both as a player and coach can help them develop and achieve their goals. The project has a strong coaching structure designed to help European players to continue to compete against other continents and the best players in the world.''

She has played it ever since the age of 12 and became English national champion in women’s singles in 2011 and 2015. She has also competed for the English team and has played for various clubs in Europe and a season in the American League, as well.

Throughout her playing career both in England and Denmark, she has coached badminton; “I enjoy trying to help other players improve and always wanted to give something back to the sport that I love.”

“As soon as I heard that BE[Badminton Europe] were starting this new project I knew that I wanted to be a part of it. For me joining the centre and helping the players based there is a huge honour and to also develop myself as a coach.”, she says about the high-performance project.
