European Junior Champion Viktor Axelsen continues his impressive performance at the Singapore Open Superseries. The 18-year-old from Denmark put up a great show yesterday by beating the top seed Sho Sasaki of Japan in three games. And today, the young shuttler was in full control against Anand Pawar from India as Axelsen won in straight games (21-19, 21-17) and moved into the quarter-finals stage of the 200.000 Dollars event.

"We both had a very hard time controlling the drift today, so it wasn't the prettiest match I've played. But I'm satisfied about my win of course and very happy to be through to the quarters. Tomorrow I'll be up against Sony Dwi Kuncoro of Indonesia. Sony has been playing really well lately, so I will have to be ready for a very tough match. I'm feeling ready to fight the best I've learned and really looking forward to play", said Axelsen on his official Facebook page.

The last European who won the Singapore Open in the men's singles was Axelsen's compatriot Peter Gade in 2006.

Juliane Schenk also reached the quarter-finals. The second seeded German number one only had difficulties in the second game against her Chinese opponent Xiao Chen. To book a place in Saturday's semi-finals, Schenk has to beat Porntip Burana of Thailand.

Christian Skovgaard and Mads Kolding created a big surprise by beating current world number 9, Fang/Lee of Taiwan in the second round.
