9-12 November, 2017.These are the dates when Badminton Europe (BEC) and Badminton Ireland (BI) will organize the 2017 BEC Para-Badminton Event in Lisburn, Northern Ireland.

A bidding process to host this event was initiated in March to all our Member Associations and BI is the successful bidder and will host this event at the Lisburn Racquets Club in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Michael Watt, CEO of Badminton Ireland, ´It is with great pleasure that we welcome the 2017 BEC Para-Badminton Event to Lisburn in Northern Ireland.  It is particularly significant given para-badminton’s inclusion in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.  Ireland have been working hard to introduce grass-roots para badminton to complement the well-established high-performance element and part of our key to success is the support provided for para coaches’ development. We are very proud that the Badminton Centre in Lisburn has been chosen for this event as it has been fully developed with para use in mind and we hope that the participants will make full use of its facilities. We wish everyone an enjoyable, productive and successful time in Ireland this November´.

2015 BWF Para-Badminton World Championships Opening Ceremony, Stoke Mandeville, England and Lisburn Racquets Club, Northern Ireland.

Tania Teoh, BEC Junior Manager on the event.´We see the need to include a European centralized training camp for players heading to Ulsan, South Korea for the 2017 BWF Para-Badminton World Championships, parallel with the coach education course. At the centralized training camp, there will be high level on court trainings, sparring sessions and sports psychology to name a few. I really look forward to meeting all the passionate and talented players and coaches in Ireland. For the coach education course, discussions have been going on with the Badminton World Federation (BWF) to integrate BWF para-badminton modules to the coaching sessions. I do hope that this event will boost the players´ preparation en route to Ulsan and at the same time, build a larger para-badminton coaching community´.

This is the third year that BEC will organize a coach education course for para-badminton coaches, having the previous editions in Veenendaal (2015) and Beek (2016) in the Netherlands.
