Part two of the four part future series trilogy takes place this week as the circuit moves to Timisoara for the 17th edition of the Romanian International. The future series rated tournament offers the chance for both emerging youngsters to dip their toes in the senior circuit cauldron while allowing seasoned seniors to test themselves against players they might not come up against at a higher level tournament.

Bulgaria’s Ivan Rusev will look to do the doubles this week as he travels to Romania as top seed in the men’s singles and seeded two in the men’s doubles alongside Daniel Nikolov (main picture).

In the men’s singles Spain’s Luis Enrique Penalver will be the one to challenge the Bulgarian in the top half of the draw while the home nation will have hopes that Collins Filimon can upset both and make the podium stages of the tournament. Pierrick Cajot of France leads the charge in the bottom half of the draw and eight seed Daniel Chislov will be one to watch after a good run to the final in Karvina last week.

While seeded two in the men’s doubles Rusev & Nikolov will be the favourites to lift the title. After a handful runners up spots in the past 12 months the Bulgarians will be keen to get this outing over the line and prove they are good enough to mix it on the circuit at the higher series and challenge level tournaments.

Spanish duo ones to watch in women’s singles

Clara Azurmendi (pictured above) travels to Romania as top seed and favourite for the women’s singles title. The Spanish number three has won on the circuit before at levels higher than this week’s tournament but has struggled in 2017 with form. Like Azurmendi, Sara Penalver is in need of some tournament success after graduating from junior badminton this year. Both may be the ones to watch this week in opposite sides of the draw.

2009 European junior champion Anne Hald will be one of the more experienced players on show this week in Timisoara and will look to back up her win in Croatia just a few weeks ago.

In the women’s doubles Tomalova & Svabikova will look to better their bronze medal position from last week’s Czech International but will have stiff competition from the team of Koreans who have made the trip to Romania.

Meanwhile Svabikova may have more success in the mixed doubles alongside Filip Budzel. The Czech’s had a good run to the final last week and form suggests they have what it takes to win this week in Romania.
