There was double joy for Denmark as Europe’s badminton powerhouse claimed both the men’s and women’s doubles title at the Singapore Open Superseries.

European Champions and second seeds Christinna Pedersen and Kamilla Rytter Juhl beat world number one Misaki Matsutomo and Ayaka Takahashi of Japan 21-18, 14-21, 21-15 to claim their first Superseries victory of the year.

„What a fantastic week for us - Five great matches in a row“, said Kamilla Rytter Juhl and Christinna Pedersen via Facebook.

Their compatriots, former world no 1 duo of Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen (pictured) eased past Li Junhui and Liu Yuchen (word no 2) of China 21-13, 21-14 to win their second title of 2017.

„Can't believe we did it, the old men still got it“, wrote Boe and Mogensen on their official Facebook page.

Carolina Marin lost out to Tai Tzu Ying

Tai Tzu Ying cemented her status as the world’s top female shuttler as she beat reigning Olympic champion and world number two Carolina Marin in straight games at the 350.000 Dollars tournament on Sunday.

World number one Tai took just 38 minutes to seal a clinical 21-15, 21-15 victory at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

It was Tai’s fifth consecutive Superseries title and her second victory over Marin in less than two weeks, having already triumphed at the Malaysian Open final a few weeks ago.

The usually unflappable Marin had no answers today to Tai’s excellent defensive work and quick smashes as the diminutive 22-year-old edged ahead at 13-10 and eventually took the first game.

The Spaniard still failed to find her rhythm in the second, as a composed Tai dictated the pace and saw out the game comfortably.

„I am not so happy with my game today but I can learn a lot from the past three weeks and I take so many positive things. Thanks to everyone for keep supporting me. Next one for me will be the European Championships in two weeks“, Marin told her fans via Facebook.
