The theme for the International Women’s Day (8th March) this year is #BeBoldForChange. Women around the world were urged to forge a better working world - a more gender inclusive world. To mark this day, the International Olympic Committee organized the 2nd IF (International Federations) Women in Leadership Forum in Lausanne from 6th-8th March 2017. More than 65 women representatives from National and International Federations, National Olympic Committees and experts participated in this forum.

Dr. Sharon Springer, Badminton World Federation’s Education Resources Manager and Corina Dan, former Badminton Europe Director from the badminton community were among the 65 participants who attended the forum. The weekend in Lausanne enabled them to network and learn more about global female leadership, network of women, women in social medias, mentoring vs. sponsoring, among many other interesting topics.

When asked about the experience after the forum, Corina Dan stated, ‘In my opinion the most personal benefit for me was that I was inspired by some powerful leaders in the group, by their experience and courage to move forward in difficult situations. “Every woman is an asset.” – said one of the attending women – and this is the ultimate sentence that caught my ears. If there’s a need to mentor women, there should be support for this action in order to facilitate men and women to be working together, as our common goal is one that embraces diversity at the same time and at all levels.’

Corina is an extremely passionate badminton lover and has been contributing to badminton since 1984 when she started as a badminton player at a local club in Timisioara. Since then, she has been involved in various areas in badminton; as an administrator of a club, coach to children, tournament organizer and also involved in the Committee of the Romanian Badminton Federation (1996-2014), General Secretary of the Balkan Badminton Committee (1992-1996) and Council Member of Badminton Europe (2008-2014).

During her term with Badminton Europe, she was a part of the Development & Women in Badminton Working Groups (now known as the Women in Badminton Commission). Badminton Europe’s Women in Badminton Commission was established in 2015 with the aim of increasing female participation in the different areas in badminton.
