Day 3 at the European club championships is always moving day in terms of sorting out the medals and the pecking order of Europe’s elite clubs. This year proved to be no different with three of the four seeded teams securing medals and France pushing both their teams into the semi-finals.

Both Issy Les Moulineaux and BC Chambly Oise we untroubled in their respective quarter final matches to claim a minimum of two bronze medals for the host nation. Issy took just over one hour to end the medal dream of TBR of Iceland. Gaetan Mittelheisser and Audrey Fontaine took the opening point before singles players Kate Foo Kune (main picture) and Lucas Corvee delivered the victory with easy wins.

“It’s of course nice to get a minimum of a bronze medal secured today but as athletes we want more so we will be very focused in trying to do that tomorrow;” said Issy’s Kate Foo Kune after her team’s victory.

French champions BC Chambly Oise were pushed that bit harder in their tie against St. Gallen-Appenzell. The Swiss outfit have been one of the revelations of the tournament and made the French champions work hard for their win.

Bastian Kersaudy and Beatriz Corrales were taken to three games by Celine Burkart and Agung Ruhanda with the Swiss levelling the match thanks to Roger Federer lookalike Dominik Buetikofer. At 1-1 the match was finely balanced but with a team laden with talent it was only a matter of time before Chambly stepped up a gear.

Beatriz Corrales took the women’s singles beating Ronja Stern in two games before Robert Mateusiak and Bastian Kersaudy sealed the deal with a two game win in the men’s doubles to send Chambly into the semi-finals.

Speaking after the match the St. Gallen-Appenzell squad spoke fondly of their time in Tour.

“We had a great time here and really enjoyed the atmosphere” said Stern. “I had some amazing matches and playing Vladimir Ivanov yesterday was certainly a high light for me” said Buetikofer.

Mini upset for Recreativo les La Orden

Spanish champions Recreativo les La Orden book their semi-final spot to upset the seedings sending last year’s bronze medallists Calvi Network Milano home at quarter final stage. There was little to separate the teams today with a thrilling three set women’s doubles deciding the outcome.

Noelia Jimenez Martin and Haidee Ojeda (pictured above) came through against Megumi Sonoda and Sarita Suwannakitborihan 24-22 in the deciding set to send the Spanish into the medals. Pablo Abian was once again instrumental winning both mixed and men’s singles for Recreativo.

“This match was very tough today” said Jimenez “We have a medal now and we will be underdogs to win the semifinal but we will of course give it our best shot and who knows what might happen”

In the final quarter final match of the day top seeds and hot favorites Primorye Vladivostok beat Van Zundert Velo and will now face French runners up Issy Les Moulineaux in tomorrow’s semifinal.
