Day 2 in Tours saw the conclusion of the groups stages at the European club championships. All 4 seeded teams topped their group while Spanish champions, Recreativo Les La Orden claimed the Iberian Peninsula bragging rights beating ACD Che lagonese to book their quarter final spot.

The Spanish and Portuguese champions went into the final group match knowing that the winner would join third seeds Issy Les Moulineaux in the quarter finals as the two teams from group 4.

Recreativo had a narrow loss to the French runners up earlier in the day coming out the wrong side of a 3-2 score line leaving the final match against the Portuguese as a winner take all tie.

Pablo Abian (main picture) beat Pedro Martins in one of the matches of the week so far to send the Spanish on their way to the quarter finals. The European Games champion saved three match points in game two to come back and win against Martins and from there the Spanish champions eased to second place in the group at the expense of the Portuguese.

In group 1 top seeds Primorye Vladivostok dropped just two games in total romping to the top spot in the group. The Russians are joined in the quarter final by Swiss champions St Gallen Appenzell sending Maccabi Rishon Le Zion from Israel home.

As expected French champions BC Chambly Oise cruised to top spot in group 2 and joining them in the quarter finals for the second year in succession are TBR of France. In what was a tough day in the hall the heat proved to be a major factor in some players performance.

“It is very warm in the hall which seems to be the talking point from all players this week” said Beatriz Corrales (pictured above) to Badminton Europe during her sides win this afternoon. “We have to manage these conditions and it is the same for everyone and it might come down to who can handle the heat the best by the end of the tournament”

Fourth seeds and bronze medallists from 2015, Calvi Network Milano had a top of the table clash against Dutch champions Van Zundert Velo in group 3. The Italian champions eventually coming through 3-2 thanks to their superior singles. The Dutch did take second spot to join the Italian champions in the quarter finals with BC Jonglenster losing out and heading home.
