It was a very convincing win for Viktor Axelsen today. The victory over Korea’s Son Wan Ho moved the Dane into the position to become a champion at the Yonex Sunrise India Open Superseries, a 300.000 Dollars event. And to clinch his maiden Superseries title tomorrow.

The 21-11, 21-11-victory in less than 40 minutes paved a path for Axelsen to lift his first ever Superseries title. The 22-year-old from Odense will be also bidding for the first trophy this year.

Today’s win was effortless in contrast to the struggles Axelsen went through in his first two matches this week, spending a combined of almost two hours on court to win against Hu Yun (Hong Kong) and Sony Dwi Kuncoro (Indonesia) in three games, respectively.

In Sunday’s final, the number five seed from Denmark will face Kento Momota of Japan. Taking a look at their head-to-head statistic, the Asian shuttler has to be considered the favourite in tomorrow’s men’s singles showdown.  Momota, the world number four, has compiled a remarkable 5-1 head-to-head record over the young Dane, which includes a victory in the BWF World Superseries finals in 2015.

The men’s singles final will be the last of the five final matches tomorrow and is expected to commence not before 14.00 CET.

Christinna Pedersen/Kamilla Rytter Juhl bow out

Denmark’s doubles stars Christinna Pedersen and Kamilla Rytter Juhl crashed out of the Indian Open on Saturday after going down to Japanese duo of Naoko Fukuman and Kurumi Yonao in a thrilling semi-final (21-14, 20-22, 17-21) in New Delhi.

“One of those days …We had a hard time finding our best today. It started well but already in the beginning in the second set we were struggling. Fukuman and Yonao played better and better and we couldn't stop it. Today we really have the feeling that a big chance slipped away from us. But as always we will stay positive and it's not bad to be so close to a win even on a bad day”, the women’s doubles duo said via Facebook.
