It was a long and tough day in Lubin for all teams but more so for Denmark who were taken to the final match in their quarter final against Czech Republic before beating France 4-1 to make yet another European team final.

The Danes had to call on all their reserves and the undoubted talent of Alexandra Boje (pictured below) to get across the line against the spirited Czech’s in the early quarter final matches, Boje winning both her mixed and doubles to send the Czech team down.

Boje starred again in the semi-final leading Denmark from the front alongside Jesper Toft in mixed doubles before sealing the win with doubles partner Amalie Magelund Krogh to get the Danes over the line in what was a mentally challenging 12 hours.

“Today was a very tough day for me and for Denmark. We were taken so close by Czech Republic early on and we really had to dig deep to bounce back in the semi-final” said Boje to Badminton Europe. “I played four matches today and now I am extremely tired but this tough day will make us stronger and we will come back tomorrow ready to win against England”

England had it a little easier in both their quarter final and semi-final. The English young guns beat Germany 4-1 in the early quarter final before storming past Turkey in the semi-final thanks to a pair of master class performances by their singles players Johnnie Torjussen and Abigail Holden.

Holden (main article picture) took the third and decisive point for the English beating Busra Unlu in two games, the first defeat for the powerful Turk all week.

“It took me some time to get used to the hall at the beginning of the week but I feel I have gotten better as the days have past and the quarter final performance earlier gave me a lot of confidence in the semi-final” said Holden to Betv.

England head coach Martin Andrew was obviously full of praise for his team and is quietly confident ahead of the final against Denmark tomorrow.

“All our players were fantastic today. Abigail (Holden) has grown into this event and we all knew that she had this big win in her today. Johnnie (Torjussen) has had a great week also winning all his matches in singles and doubles and we believe there is a lot more to come for him not just this week but in the future”

The final itself could come down to a battle of girls versus boys. The Danish girls are in sparkling form and in Alexandra Boje have a natural born leader. The English boys have proved unbeatable this week and with a final that is likely to be balanced on fine margins it will come down to who wants it most and who can take their game to the next level.
