Since the 2015 Annual Delegates’ Meeting of Badminton Europe decided on a new working structure for the Confederation, the Board has gone through a diligent process to appoint the external members of the new Commissions based on nominations of the Member Associations.

The Para-Badminton Commission was already in place as the BEC Board decided to act swiftly following direction of the Membership at the 2014 Annual Delegates’ Meeting. Following the same process, positions for the 7 new Commissions were advertised and the interest to support Badminton Europe in these specialist areas has been overwhelming.

All together 22 Member Associations nominated a total of 37 candidates for the Commissions which made it a close to impossible task to decide on the 10 new Commission Members that shall serve until August 2017.

Gregory Verpoorten, BEC President: “It is always hard having to disappoint people that are willing to serve as Commission Members. In the decision making process, the Board has considered the profile of the candidates, the needs of BEC, diversity of the candidates and the strong wish to include more women in the governance of the Federation. I personally have high hopes for the Commissions to bring new ideas and support the current Board in making our sport an even stronger player in the European and Worldwide Sport landscape”.

Several Member Associations presented bids to host Badminton Europe for the first Commission meetings and its periodical Board meeting. The final choice fell on the Norwegian capital of Oslo. The new Commissions shall meet on 4-5 September whereas the meeting of the Board of Directors is scheduled for Sunday 6 September.
