This year's Slovenia Badminton International will see a record number of entries. The tournament in Medvode will take place for the 19th time in a row. The local badminton club of Medvode and the Slovenian Badminton Federation are continuing the tradition in organizing international badminton competitions.

More than 180 players from 31 countries will compete in the 5.000 Dollars event which starts on Thursday with the qualification stage. The top seeded player in the men's singles category is Henri Hurskainen of Sweden, the no. 67 on the world badminton ranking list. Ukrainian number one Dmytro Zavadsky is the second seed. Best ranked Slovenian player is Iztok Utroša who has good chances to reach a podium spot on home soil. This season, Utroša trained hard and had some good results - so the local organizer hope he will succeed in front of his home crowd. Alen Roj is also ranked among the players in the main competition. Other Slovenian players will take part in qualification stage.

In the women's singles, 59 players entered the competition and 32 of them will compete in the main tournament. Russian player Ksenia Polikarpova (no. 54) is the top seeded player and second seeded is Marija Ulitina (no. 78 on the world badminton ranking) from Ukraine. Other Slovenian players will take part in qualification.

Top seeded in men's doubles are Croatian players Zvonimir Durkinjak and Zvonimir Hoelbling (no. 77 on the world badminton ranking list). Best ranked Slovenians are Miha Ivanič and Andraž Krapež.

First seeded in women’s doubles are Carola Bott and Jennifer Karnott from Germany (no. 71 of the BWF world ranking). We can also expect interesting matches in mixed doubles where siblings Jones Ralfy Jansen and Cisita Joity Jansen from Germany are the top seeds.
