Tedjono and Vignes crowned champions

Italy’s star player Indra Bagus Ade Chandra’s determination has not been good enough and he could not repeate the success of the last year’s the XIV Italian International edition. In fact, the sparring partner of the Italian National Team had to his compatriot, Indonesian Andre Kurniawan Tedjono in a very tough, three game match (15-21; 21-18; 21-18).

“I played a good first game – said a disappointed Indra Bagus Ade Chandra with the silver medal around his neck – “I would have hoped I could close the second game but l didn’t manage. I got a bit tired and that was when my opponent turned better”.

Also Sashina Vignes Waran of France needed a third game (16-21; 21-17; 21-17), to win the women’s singles category against the top seeded Beatriz Corrales of Spain. In the three previous editions of the tournament, the French top player never succeeded in beating her Spanish opponent.

On the contrary, the Dutch pair of Samantha Barning and Iris Tabeling delivered a  clear victory in the women’s doubles event by beating the Russian duo Victoria Dergunova  and Olga Morozova, in two straight games (21-17; 21-15).

In the mixed doubles finals, it took Ronan Labar and Emilie Lefer only two games (21-15; 21-14) to beat Gaetan Mittelheisser and Audrey Fontaine in all-French affair.  

England’s Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge beat Germany’s number one pair and hot favourite in Rome, Michael Fuchs and Johannes Schöttler, won in two games (21-11; 21-19) to take their first international title as a pair.

Italian Federation President Alberto Miglietta: “I want to thank  CONI and the Defence Staff  (Aereonautica, Carabinieri, Esercito and Marina Militare), the Gruppo Sportivo Fiamme Oro, the Gruppo Sportivo Fiamme Azzurre, the Gruppi Sportivi Fiamme Gialle and the Gruppo Sportivo Forestale,  and Regione Lazio, Comune di Roma Capitale,  Municipio X di Roma Capitale, the  Main Partner, Energetic Source, the Media Partner,  Corriere dello Sport and Agenzia Tre Emme Viaggi for their support to host this tournament once again.”

Badminton will come back to Italy Capital City from March 28 to 30 for the fifth edition of the Italian Junior International”.
