“20 Member Associations are now implementing Shuttle Time. This is a big success! It was our goal to have more than 20 countries implementing it by 2016. Yet another five countries have shown interest to start Shuttle Time in their countries in 2015. We need to set new goals and this is very positive”, says Development Manager Jeroen van Dijk.

Shuttle Time is the BWF’s Schools' Badminton programme, which aims to make badminton the world’s most popular sports in schools. Since 2012, the BWF is working with its Continental Confederations and their Member Associations to implement worldwide.

20 countries running Shuttle Time

Badminton Europe has been very successful in involving a lot of countries in the Shuttle Time Programme. The following 20 countries are currently running Shuttle Time: Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Slovakia, Iceland, Russia, Malta, Hungary, Ireland, Slovenia, Romania, Norway, Poland, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Faroe Islands, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lithuania, and Croatia. The Development staff of BEC is working hard to get more people and countries involved in the project.

Until now the 20 Member Associations organized 178 Teachers’ courses and 15 Tutors’ courses, educating in total 3423 Shuttle Time Teachers and 297 Shuttle Time Tutors. The countries who organized the most courses are Poland, Italy and Ireland. Two of our Member Associations, Austria and Switzerland, were able to involve Shuttle Time in their University education programme as future PE teachers are receiving Shuttle Time education as part of their study.

Every year, Badminton Europe is organizing Shuttle Time Trainers’/Tutors’ courses in order to have enough educated staff in the countries which are implementing or intent to implement Shuttle Time.

Because of the high number of applications in 2014,we decided to organize a second Shuttle Time Trainers’/Tutors’ course at the end of October. The course will be held in Hamburg, Germany.
