Greenland successful in Alaska

Badminton Greenland (Badminton Kalaallit Nunaat), the most western Member Association of Badminton Europe, participated in the 2014 Arctic Winter Games held in Fairbanks, Alaska. Greenland was represented with 4 junior players (U19), 4 juvenile (U16), 2 team managers and 3 umpires.

The Arctic Winter Games are a high profile circumpolar sport competition for northern and arctic athletes

Greenland already had a great record of medals at the Arctic Winter Games. And thanks to the performances from last week, Greenland could even strengthen their medal records at this Multisports event. Greenland won all badminton gold medals, plus 4 silver and 1 bronze medal.

There are 16 badminton clubs in Greenland with more than 1400 licensed players. A great number if you look at the total population of about 55.000 people.

Greenland (Greenlandic: Kalaallit Nunaat) is an autonomous country within the Kingdom of Denmark, located between the Arctic and Atlantic Oceans, east of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. Though physiographically a part of the continent of North America, Greenland has been politically and culturally associated with Europe (specifically Norway and later Denmark) for more than a millennium.

Arctic Winter Games 2016 will be held in Nuuk, Greenland.
