The Austrian Open 2023 welcomes elite badminton stars with the Austrian players eager to shine on home soil.
The Austrian Open 2023 will be taking place from 24 until 28 May. Graz, the picturesque city in Austria, will play host once again to this International Series tournament.
For Austrian players, the tournament serves as a great opportunity to excel on home soil. Although unseeded, Luka Wraber aspires for a strong performance in front of the home crowd. There are also hopes for the home crowd in the doubles events. Serena Au Yeong and Katharina Hochmeir, eighth seeds, will aim to make their mark and so will the second-seeded duo of Philip Birker and Katharina Hochmeir, and Simon Bailoni and Serena Au Yeong in the mixed doubles.
The five events’ main draws feature notable contenders such as third-seeded Ade Resky Dwicahyo, Azerbaijan and number-two-seed Julien Carraggi, Belgium, in the men’s singles; Hungary's Vivien Sandorhazi assuming the women’s singles fourth seed; men’s doubles top seeds Rory Easton and Zach Russ, England, and second seeded Ondřej Král and Adam Mendrek from the Czech Republic.
Representing the Centre of Excellence, Slovakia’s Milan Dratva will aim to make his mark both in the men’s singles and mixed doubles with Katarina Vargova, and so will semi-permanent player Katerina Tomalova, Czech Republic. The qualification round will also witness the participation of two talented Centre of Excellence players, Kateřina Mikelová from the Czech Republic and Sofia Slosiarikova from Slovakia, who will fight for a place in the main draw.
