42 years after the last European Badminton Championships were held in Germany, the best players of the continent will once again fight for gold in this country: The badminton club 1. BC Saarbrücken-Bischmisheim - with the support of the German Badminton Association (DBV) - successfully applied to Badminton Europe (BEC) to host the European Championships 2024.

The major event will take place from 9 to 14 April next year in Saarbrücken, the capital of Saarland. The venue will be the Saarlandhalle, where the HYLO Open, a BWF Super 300 event, is held every year. "The European Championships are a wonderful opportunity to showcase the sport of badminton and bring it closer to all sports enthusiasts in Germany," said DBV President Ralf Michaelis about the BEC's decision.

DBV Sports Director Martin Kranitz added: "We were very pleased about the allocation. This means that after a long time, a major event in badminton will once again come to Germany. The European Championships 2024 is a very special and significant tournament, as it is the last major tournament in the qualification period for the Summer Olympics in Paris.“

While Badminton Europe is the organiser of the continental competition, the 1. BC Saarbrücken-Bischmisheim is responsible for hosting the event. The DBV, in turn, had endorsed the application of the club for the 30th European Championships in history. "There are not many clubs in Europe that can meet the high demands that Badminton Europe has for the organisation of its top events," said Ralf Michaelis being certain that the 1. BC Saarbrücken-Bischmisheim will succeed in organizing this major event.

Sven Serré, President of Badminton Europe, was pleased to see the European Championships return to Germany after 42 years: „We are very happy to allocate the next European Championships to Germany. After winning two gold medals in 2022, hosting this major event in 2024 will for sure be another big step in growing the recognition of badminton in one of the biggest countries in Europe”, said Serré.
