The Welsh International Badminton Championships is one of the oldest badminton tournaments in the world, first held in 1928. In 2022 the International Challenge is taking place in Cardiff, Wales.

From November 29th to December 3rd, the Sport Wales National Centre is host to players from all over the world. Today, the qualification round starts at 10:00 AM (CET) and you can watch it on www.badmintoneurope.tv. On December 1st , the main draw begins at the same time.

In a tournament that used to be dominated especially by English champions, in recent years it has become more diverse. Last year, Arnaud Merklé from France won gold in men’s singles. In this edition, Brice Leverdez, who last played at the AIG FZ Forza Irish Open 2022, is number one seeded.

The Popov brothers Christo and Toma Junior will be playing as top-seeded in men’s doubles and Mark Lamsfuss and Isabel Lohau in mixed doubles.

Chloe Birch and Lauren Smith will be playing for the first time together in women’s doubles since Lauren’s injury at the Dutch Open 2022 back in October, where they were fighting for gold in the final.

Margot Lambert and Anne Tran are also seeded players and the winners of last year’s edition of the Welsh International Badminton Championships. Both mentioned that they are ready and will be fighting to claim the title once again this year.
