The ORLEN Polish International, which brought together 297 players from more than 25 countries around the world, ended in Lublin on Sunday, September 25, with three titles for Japanese players.
The competition in all categories was dominated by Asians, who came to Lublin in the number of more than 100 badminton players from countries such as Japan, Chinese Taipei, China, Thailand, Malaysia and Sri Lanka. Europeans also fielded a large representation. Among those who took part were many Polish badminton players, as well as players from England, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Germany, Belgium, Ukraine, Denmark or Slovenia.
Jan Louda from the Czech Republic was the only European to reach the semifinals of the International Series event. The top-seed in men’s singles ended runner-up after beating Minoru Koga from Japan in the semifinals 13-21 23-21 21-19 and eventually losing to Yushi Tanaka (also Japan) in the final 13-21 15-21.
The winners of the tournament were all players from Chinese Taipei and Japan. In mixed doubles Chiu Hsiang Chieh/Lin Xiao Min (Chinese Taipei), women's singles Hirari Mizui (Japan), men's singles Yushi Tanaka (Japan) and women's doubles Miku Shigeta/Yui Suizu (Japan) and men's doubles Chiu Hsiang Chieh/Yang Ming-Tse (Chinese Taipei).
