The 2022 European U15 Championships already has a logo, and combines two of the most representative elements of badminton and Ibiza: a shuttlecock over a sun that represents a sunset. The main version of the logo is shown in orange colour, in a clear reference to the world famous sunsets of Ibiza that attract travelers from all over the planet.

Ibiza, named a World Heritage city by UNESCO in 1999, was a meeting and exchange point for different cultures (Punics, Phoenicians, Romans, Byzantines, Visigoths, Muslims, Catalans). Today it’s an icon because of its privileged natural environment, its cultural and heritage assets, its cheerful and cosmopolitan atmosphere and for its sports, gastronomic and leisure offer for all audiences. For all these reasons Ibiza has become in a mythical and paradisiacal destination that attracts travelers from all over the world.

The Ibiza 2022 European U15 Championship will be held from September 21 to 24 at the Sa Blanca Dona sports center, the usual venue for UD Ibiza Bádminton Pitiús, thanks to the involvement of the Consell Insular d'Eivissa and the Ajuntament d'Eivissa, institutions that support the organization of a tournament of recognized prestige at a continental level and that will serve to promote grassroots sports and to promote the island of Ibiza as a tourist and sports destination.

This competition will meet the great young badminton players of the continent. Athletes who are called to be the absolute champions of the future. Proof of this is that the medalists from previous editions as Thom Gicquel (MS Bronze 2014), Arnaud Merkle (MD Bronze 2014), Alexandra Bøje (WS & XD Gold 2014), Christo Popov (MS Silver & MD Gold 2016), Alex Lanier (MS Gold 2018) and Kaloyana Nalbantova (WS Bronze 2020). All of them are players who stood out at an early age and are now shining at an international level.

Ibiza, the island of badminton in September

Badminton will be breathed in Ibiza during almost the entire month of September, as it will chain three international tournaments whose grand finale will be the European U15 Championships.

In the previous weeks, the best European badminton players will face in Ibiza at the IBERDROLA Spanish International, a tournament that has been organized for more than 30 years and that takes place from September 12 to 15 at the same venue. Among its previous winners there are stars such as the reigning Olympic and European champion Viktor Axelsen. The last edition was held in La Nucía and Spanish badminton was up to the task, as Pablo Abián was the champion of the men’s singles and Paula López - Lorena Uslé won the women’s doubles silver medal.

Besides, from September 16 to 18 Ibiza will held the Spanish U15 and U17 International as well, another classic tournament on the international calendar. Spain has a lot to say in this tournament, since the national academy is taking a step forward in international competitions and is called to do great things in the short, medium and long term.
