The 2022 European Club Championships title goes to UKS Hubal Bialystok, a club from the host city of this year’s event.

It was bound to be a great finals day at the 2022 European Club Championships in Bialystok, Poland. The 2019 runner-ups BC Chambly Oise, and a club from the host city, UKS Hubal Bialystok, were going to fight for this year’s title.

Important to start with a win
First on court, it was the mixed doubles match played by Eloi Adam/ Flavie Vallet from the French club and Lucas Corvee/ Alžběta Bášová, representing the Polish club. The latter got to secure the important first win in straight games, 21-12 21-9.

- It is the first match of the team match, so it is important to start with a win, we knew that. After some rallies, we managed to play our game, Corvee stated.

- We were down 11-4 in the first game, so we did a big twist, with just a small change in tactics, Bášová explained.

Big comebacks
Next up were the 2022 Polish national champion Krzysztof Jakowczuk and Sacha Leveque. Leveque, playing for BC Chambly Oise, was leading in the first game, but Jakowczuk got to recover and win it. Both players were close at several points but Leveque’s aim at focusing on his strategy got to make it 1 – 1 on the scoreboard of the team match.

- I knew that I could win. I did a comeback in the second game, I was on fire at that moment. I knew what I had to do, I followed the plan and it worked, Leveque said.

It was the turn of Léonice Huet and Mariya Mitsova to break the equaliser. Mitsova started off with a great performance, taking the win in the first game. Huet fought hard to stop her opponent and it worked, securing the second game, but Mitsova made a comeback to put UKS Hubal Bialystok on the lead.

- I expected a tough match because I know Léonice Huet, she’s always fighting hard, and she can perform on a really high level. I was expecting a hard match with long rallies, and she proved that, Mitsova said.

An amazing atmosphere
All the pressure was now on the men’s doubles encounter, as a win would give the Polish club the title. Eloi Adam/ Robert Mateusiak and Lucas Corvee/ Pawel Smilowski gave the crowd yet another tough battle to enjoy. It was a close encounter, but Corvee/ Smilowski, representing UKS Hubal Bialystok took an even bigger advantage on the decider to take the third win for their club that would make them the champions of the tournament.

UKS Hubal Bialystok, a club from the host city, is the 2022 European Club Championships winner, being this their first time as title-holders. The event has been delivered successfully and what a way to close it than for a club from Bialystok to be the champions, giving the crowd yet another reason to cheer even more.

- The atmosphere is amazing and it’s satisfying to bring a win here at home, the crowd was with us. I could not be happier, Mitsova said after her win at today's final.
