The Cyprus Badminton Federation hosted a successful BEC Regional Project in the attractive village of Kakopetria with Croatia and Israel. The weather was hot and there was a great spirit from all participants to collaborate, train and socialise.

The focus of the Regional Project programme is to encourage Member Associations to collaborate and form a development initiative to enhance the level of badminton in their region.

Through training, games and social activities, the aim was to build collaboration between players and coaches of the MAs taking part. In this instance, their Mediterranean neighbours Israel took part, as well as Croatia. The key themes were knowledge exchange, as well as, creating and strengthening long-lasting relationships.

A great opportunity
The Regional Project was also able to prepare players for the upcoming 2021 European U17 Championships in Slovenia, which takes place 3-12 September.

Gloria Pirvanescu, Cyprus Head Coach, was joined by coaches Josip Uglesic (Croatia) and Nir Sade (Israel) which according to Pirvanescu provided a unique mixture of ‘experience, immense enthusiasm, empathy and skills, which offered continuous motivation and a great opportunity for athletes to exchange knowledge, create and strengthen long-lasting relationships’.

While the Regional Project was a busy event for all involved during a heatwave, there was time to enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

-Between sessions, players had the chance to enjoy relaxing walks through the picturesque village of Kakopetria, surrounded by thick forestland on the banks of Klarios river. On free afternoons the swimming pool offered cooling and fun while an excursion was organised for walking at the Caledonia natural trail.
