The RSL BEC Summer School from the staff’s perspective

Just like our event participants, the coach education trainers and the training camp coaches are a diverse bunch. We wanted to hear what they thought of their experience so far.

The U15 training camp and the BWF/BEC Level 2 Coach Education course are taking at the same time at the RSL BEC Summer School. It was the last day today for everyone involved, and we wanted to know what the staff of both thought of it.

Some old and new friends
This has not been Slovenia nor Podčetrtek’s first time hosting the RSL BEC Summer School. A badminton representative for the host country among the staff was Maja Kersnik, Coach Education Trainer at the event. From young talented coaches to former badminton champions — and even former Olympic athletes! —, Kersnik’s perception of the group is good.

-We have had very intense days. We are very happy with the level of the group and we have a lot of interesting discussions. I’m also happy with the different backgrounds of the participants. Some of the candidates are former badminton players with high international experience. Some of them are already working with their national associations, with high coaching positions.

From those who will coach the younger generations that will take over the badminton world in the upcoming years to the young talents themselves, Peter Zauner from Austria is one of the Staff Coaches at the U15 training camp. Such events are important for the future of our sport in Europe by building a strong community between people from different nations.

-I think the culture we want to bring is that our sport in Europe can be good if we help each other. If we do not cooperate it’s not so easy, so this event fits perfectly into this culture. I enjoyed it as a player and I am also enjoying it as a coach.

Another Staff Coach at the junior players’ training camp, Clara Strauß from Germany, has experienced this event both as a coach education participant, three years ago, and has now taken on another role. Looking for new experiences, it has proven to be an unrivalled one.

-I thought of taking on a new challenge here. It’s good fun, the atmosphere is really nice and I learnt so much the last time so I wanted to try something new this time. The players come from many different nations, with different aims and experiences. You can learn from every conversation that you have.
