The French doubles player talks about going back to his roots and how he still has a few tricks up his sleeve in this week’s episode.

Ronan Labar is now 31 years old, but he is still willing to fight whoever gets in his way. For this week’s episode of the BEC Podcast, we discuss with the French national all things past, present, and future.

Although Labar is well into his career, the player will not stop for now, and his results and latest movements show it. With many new projects on the horizon, he has struck a new partnership with 28-year-old Lucas Corvée who has up until recently played singles as well as doubles with many other fellow French players such as Brice Leverdez. 

New, exciting things to come 

Now, Labar looks to move up the rankings in this new duo having just said goodbye to his mixed doubles partner Anne Tran. The player feels like it is now time to go back to where he grew up, the South of France, an area that he so much prefers, and so leaves Tran in Paris. 

After having partnered and gained success with Audrey Fontaine — their peak being the 2017 European Championships where they won bronze —, Anne Tran, Baptiste Carême, and Thom Gicquel, he looks to Denmark and their long partnerships as a better method than the constant shifting he has been doing during his career.

Labar also talks about the young talents in France’s badminton scene and how they are slowly taking over the world’s podiums. Still, he is not afraid of them and is ready to defend his spot among the best. 

-The French young players are extremely good, and I feel like they’re trying to push me out. But I still feel like I’m still in the game, I’m still enjoying it and in good shape.
