The two-time Slovenia International mixed doubles champion, Petra Polanc, has announced herself on the European stage by stating “We can and will surprise you”.

The 19-year-old Slovenian talent has said her ultimate goal is a good performance at the 2024 Olympics. Hailing from a small badminton nation, Polanc tells us why she believes she can reach the top.

- I believe that where there is a will, there is a way. I am also a firm believer of hard work paying off. Sometimes you have to find your own way, find the right people who will stand by you and support you no matter what. As long as there is motivation, strong will, effort and hard work, everything will be possible. But the most important thing is to remember why you do what you do in the first place. It is important to enjoy and have fun. I wonder.

Polanc represented her country at the Youth Olympics, something that she never imagined was possible, so the is why she is now aiming even higher.

Part of who I am

Polanc is very determined and set on what she wants, but is it too far to look at where she will be in 10 years’ time and what will the interview be like then?

-That is a very difficult question as 10 years is a very long period and we can never be sure what life has prepared for us. If I continue to be successful and I have no major injuries, we will probably meet on the court after a game I just won.

- At that point, I will most likely slowly start to think about retirement as I would like to start a family someday in the future. But no matter what there is a high chance I will stay in badminton as a coach since it will always be a huge part of who I am.
