Gabby Adcock: Unusual times

Reigning double European mixed doubles champion, Gabby Adcock, is in perhaps the strangest moment of her career.

Gabby Adcock, along with her husband Chris, has been an iconic player on the world stage. Currently sitting at 13 in the world, they have been a consistent pair, fluctuating between ninth and thirteenth over the past decade.

Despite being the reigning European champions, compatriots Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith have crept passed them in the rankings. This demonstrates England’s strength within this category, but more importantly for the Adcocks, it means being out in the cold for Olympic qualification. Discussing this tough topic, Gabby Adcock says.

- With the current uncertainty and such unusual times as an athlete it is tough. Especially as we are normally used to such good structure and planning. With that said we are both trying not to look too far ahead.

Best chance

Gabby Adcock, 29, was looking to peak at this time in her career. With all the best-laid plans now all but voided, what is her outlook for the future?

- We are setting short term goals like staying in the best shape possible, so when we do get back to competing we are giving ourselves the best chance possible.
