The HSBC BWF World Tour has come to an end. The 2019 champions have been crowned after playing matches that were undoubtedly worth seeing.

The win against Anthony Ginting from Indonesia, was definitely the way to end an incredibly successful year for the men’s singles world champion Kento Momota. In the World Tour final, Momota lost the first game 17-21, however, managed to bounce back and win the second one 21-17. In the decider, the result seemed pretty predictable as he was losing 5-12, when the Japanese superstar shook off his bad luck and went into beast mode to win the game 21-14. The match was 87 minutes long.
The two players have played against each other in six other tournaments this year. The Indonesian was able to defeat Momota once, at the French Open in October.

Triple win for China
The tour final proved to be successful for the host country China, as well. China was represented in three of the five finals and got all three titles.

The mixed doubles final was an all Chinese one, featuring the world’s two best pairs throughout 2019. World number one Zheng Si Wei / Huang Ya Qiong played against the world number two pair, Wang Yi Lyu / Huang Dong Ping. Zheng Si Wei / Huang Ya Qiong comfortably defeated their opponents in two games 21-14, 21-14, after only 36 minutes of play.

Another easy win for the Chinese players was the women’s doubles final. After playing for 43 minutes, Chen Qing Chen / Jia Yi Fan defeated Japan’s Mayu Matsumoto / Wakana Nagahara, in straight games, 21-14, 21-10. The two pairs competed against each other four other times this year. The Japanese pair was able to win only one of those matches at the Indonesian Masters at the beginning of 2019.

A more spectacular win though, was the women’s singles final, where China’s Chen Yu Fei beat Chinese Taipei star and world number one, Tai Tzu Ying. The match was a three game fight, which took almost an hour, coming down to a 12-21, 21-12, 21-17 win in favour of the Chinese. The two adversaries have definitely displayed some exciting matches throughout 2019, including a match at the All England in March.

The last match of 2019 was the men’s doubles final, a clash between Indonesia and Japan. The Japanese pair, Hiroyuki Endo / Yuta Watanabe were yet again up against an Indonesian pair, Hendra Setiawan /Mohammad Ahsan.  Hiroyuki Endo / Yuta Watanabe have been in excellent form this week in Guangzhou, beating world leaders Gideon / Sukamuljo (INA) twice on their way to the final. In their final match they played against Indonesia again. However, the Indonesians were luckier this time and they won over their Japanese opponents in two tight games, 24-22, 21-19, after playing for 44 minutes.
