Selena Piek and Robin Tabeling are through to the round of last 16.
After a disappointing European Games and a tough Asian tour, Selena Piek and Robin Tabeling from the Netherlands are back on the right track.
Wednesday morning they won their second match at the Worlds, beating He Hi Ting/Du Yue from China, who were seeded 11, in straight games, 22-20 21-18.
- It is very good to be Dutch in Basel today. We are very happy and delighted to beat a pair like that and be in the last 16 at our first World Championships, Selena Piek said.
Ready from first rally
On the tactical level the Dutch felt that they had the upper hand from the very beginning
- We were very proactive from 0-0 in the first game and showed a lot of confidence. We played the game we had to play. If you play it 80 percent, they will beat you, but we played it with 150 percent commitment, and that I think that put us through, Robin Tabeling said.
- It was all about keeping the front court and getting the lift. Both guys have a strong attack and I think we are all four very skilful players. She is very good reading the game, so for me it was all about getting the net, staying at the net, being active and showing that I am there and then put the shuttle down in the empty corner, Piek explained.
In the round of last 16 the Dutch will play either sixth seeded Jordan/Oktavianti from Indonesia or Basova/Bitman from the Czech Republic.
