Cristian Savin is delighted to have joined the Badminton Europe Centre of Excellence (CoE) and is excited to start in September.

The Moldavian international, who won BEC Shot of the Year 2018, will join the CoE on an agreement of short period stops every month, starting from when he arrives in September.

- I think it is going to be a good experience. I have practised there before, with players of good level, and I really liked it, Cristian Savin said.

- I like to practice with them and if the coaches like to practise with me, then it will motivate me to try even harder and to be even better in the future.

Goalsetting for Savin

The 19-year-old has goals in mind for his time at the CoE and is excited sparring with Laa Talar from India, who joined the centre last week.

- I just hope to improve my level, with the good sparring opportunities, and then to start making some good results.

- I am for sure looking forward to working with Laa (Talar) because we are friends and I have also played against him once.

- I really like his style and it will help me in the future because he has more of an Indian style, Savin explained.

New centre, new chance

Savin has admitted that the new premises at the centre in Denmark are a big reason for why he has chosen to train at the CoE.

- I am really looking forward to using the new centre, because everyone I speak to, who is there already, say that it is very good now and that it has improved a lot.

- I will be at the CoE for around 10-14 days each month, depending on my schedule, as I also need to go to school, he said.

- I hope to be there for as long as I can, to improve my level, Savin added.

A lot of potential

Centre of Excellence coach Kestutis Navickas has spoken very positively about the decision to bring in Savin.

The Lithuanian CoE coach is confident that Badminton Europe will be able to help the Moldovan reach his potential, providing the system works as it should.

- I am excited to have Cristian here. He is very good and has a lot of potentials to be even better. He is the best Moldavian player, so it is very good to have him at the CoE and to help him as well, Navickas said.

The former European Games medallist reveals that despite the short period stays that Savin will have at the CoE, he wants Badminton Europe to benefit from the chance of training him.

- We have agreed a set time that Cristian would be here. This is the first step, to get him here, and to try and benefit from it as much as possible, he said.

- One of the most important objectives for the centre is to help players and the federations who don’t have the best sparring and training facilities at home – so we are pleased to have him with us.

- Cristian has been here a couple of times already, so he will be fully implemented into the practice straight away. There is no time to lose for his development.
