Seedings for Basel released

The seeded teams for 2014 European Men’s and Women’s Team Championships in Basel (Switzerland) were announced today by Badminton Europe.

In the men’s event, Denmark as reigning title holders grabbed the top seeding spot while Germany and England are seeded second and third. They join Russia, The Netherlands and France among the six leading teams when the draw takes place next Wednesday in Copenhagen. 26 nations have entered for the men’s event in the St. Jakobshalle.

In the women’s event, Denmark are top seeds, while title holder Germany get the second spot in the seeding chairs – joined by Bulgaria, Russia and England. There are 21 nations contesting the women's event

The seeding is based on the individual BWF world rankings.

Each seeded nation will top a group, with the winner and the best two group runner-ups with the men and best three group runner-ups with the women advancing to the quarter final stage. Matches are played over five rubbers, three singles and two doubles in the group stages.

The draws will take place on Wednesday, 11 December 2013 at 14.00 CET starting with the draw for the women's event followed by the men's draw after a short break. The draw procedure will be streamed on Badminton Europe’s YouTube channel live from Copenhagen.

A total of 47 nations (26 men’s team and 21 women’s teams) confirmed their entries for the tournament taking place in the town of Basel in Switzerland.

Two years ago in Amsterdam, Denmark beat Germany in the men's final with England third. In the women's event Germany beat Denmark with The Netherlands taking third.
