The crowd inside Odense Idrætspark were treated to a three-game thriller in the Women’s Singles final  as Tai Tzu Ying beat Saina Nehwal, over three games.

The first game was a strong contest despite Tzu Ying dominating the scoreline as the game finished 21-13.

The second was much stronger for Nehwal, controlling especially before the break when the score was 11-5. In the second part of the game, she continued the performance and she looked like she was ready for a very important deciding game after winning, 13-21.

The third game was Tzu Ying’s, who showed her opponent exactly what she could do and punished Nehwal for the mistakes that she made throughout the game, winning the game, 21-6.

First Denmark Open win

Tzu Ying won the tournament for the first time today and has now won four of the last six 750 Series tournaments.

- I feel really happy that I have won the Danish Open and I am really excited because it is the first time in my career, Tai Tzu Ying told Badminton Europe.

- I am not expecting to win all the time, I just always try to do my best and I hope that I will win the French Open, she added.

Good to be back competing with the best

The Denmark Open is only the second final that Nehwal has competed in since her knee surgery in 2016.

The Denmark Open finalist is hoping to continue her fighting performances into the future tournaments.

- I think the special quality in me is that I fight. I like the fighting spirit of mine when I am on court, no matter who I am playing, Saina Nehwal told Badminton Europe.

- I am trying to improve all aspects of my game, the changes I have made in the last couple of months are working very well, she added.
