Denmark to host European Mixed Team Championships

Denmark will be the host of the 2019 European Mixed Team Championships, where the eight best team will fight for the European Champion title.

It is to be the third time that Denmark will be the host of the European Mixed Team Championships and for the first time in the history the city of Copenhagen will host a European badminton Championships.

- It is the first time we play these Championships with only the best 8 teams in Europe. I am sure we will have a lot of high quality matches and a great atmosphere in the venue, General Secretary of Badminton Europe, Brian Agerbak says.

A ‘very well organised’ event
After hosting the European Mixed Team Championships in 1996 (Herning) and 2008 (Herning) the Championships are back on Danish soil, and Brian Agerbak is happy to see that Badminton Denmark is the organiser of the big event.

- We are very happy that Badminton Denmark is hosting these Championships. When organized by Badminton Denmark we are always sure they we will have a very well organisers event, Agerbak says.

- And being in Copenhagen means that we expect there to be run on the tickets as well. We are excited, BEC General Secretary adds.

Pleased to be welcoming the big players
The Danish host is also excited to welcome the eight best badminton teams of Europe.

- When we got the option to host the 2019 European Mixed Team Championships we of course said yes. The ambition of Badminton Denmark is to be a badminton power house, and we will always like to host tournaments for the best players, CEO of Badminton Denmark, Bo Jensen said.

- One of the ways we can build on our vision to be a power house is also to host the major events like a European Championships, he added.

The 2019 European Championships will take place from the 13-17 February 2019.

Facts about the European Mixed Team Championships:
- The tournament takes place every second year.
- Most titles: Denmark (16)
- Podium 2017: Denmark (Winner), Russia (Runner-up), Germany & England (Bronze medals)
- The host and defending champion, Denmark is qualified for the 2019 European Mixed Team Championships.
- Seven nations will enter the tournament through qualification, which will take place from the 6-9 December 2018
