It was not to be for Denmark’s Mathias Christiansen and Christinna Pedersen, as they were defeated in the final 21-18, 21-16 to China’s fifth seeded pair He Jiting and Du Yue.

A loss of form halfway through the second set prevented the Danish’s pairs chances of turning the match in their favour. In the end, it was their lower-ranked opponents that gave their home fans something to cheer.

The opening exchanges saw He and Due pull away to a 6-2 lead. But the Danish pair responded well to keep the set alive. With both pairs taking the lead, it was tough to see if any pair would take control.

The home crowd did enough to will their home-grown players to claim the opening set 21-18.
