Badminton Europe is delighted to announce the arrival of David Walsh to the Centre of Excellence (COE), in Holbæk.

Walsh, 24, will now train full-time at the COE and continue his development in badminton after moving from his home country, Ireland to take on a new challenge.

Walsh's arrival continues to build the team that the COE currently has since it started up in September 2016.

Developing in Holbæk

Jeroen Van Dijk, the Head Coach of the COE believes that Walsh is a good fit for the camp.

- Now David (Walsh) has come into our COE, he will benefit from our more experienced players, but will also be able to assist other players who are not as developed as he is.

- He is, of course, a little bit older, so he is a little bit calmer, but he also still has a lot to learn which we hope he will do that at the Centre of Excellence at Badminton Europe.

- We are still in the building out phase and our goal is to get 24 players in and he has the level to be here, which is why we have decided to bring him in.

The pathway to success

Walsh has revealed that he is happy to be part of the group and has ambitions that he believes that he can attain these whilst at the Centre of Excellence.

Walsh also wants to take inspiration from those who have gone on to perform well in the sport and believes he can be as successful as the likes of Sam Magee and Nhat Nguyen.

- My main aim for the sport now is to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. It is something that I think I can achieve and if I didn’t think I could do it then I would not be here.

- I would love to take inspiration from different players who have performed well in the sport and if they can do it, why can’t I? I don’t see anything stopping me from going in the same direction and to do that here would be fantastic!
