Toledano wins his first Valamar Open

Tomas Toledano managed to take the Gold medal match against Badminton Europe’s Lukas Resch, in a tight match in the final.

The number 13 seed and 6 seed brought out the best of their abilities in the final of the men’s singles but Toldedano just had too much for Resch and beat the German in two sets, 21-17 and 23-21.

Making up the medal places for Europe in the Men’s singles was Norwegian seventeen-year old Markus Barth after he lost in the Semi Final to Resch.

Europe takeover the Women’s Doubles podium

It was the Ukraine doubles Anastasiya Prozorova and Valeriya Rudakova who took Gold in the final, against Romanian pair, Maria Alexandra Dutu and Loana Grecea , with a convincing victory over two sets, 12-21 and 11-21.

The bottom two of the podium is made up of Elena Andrea and Ana Carbon from Spain who were unable to get the better of Romanian pair Dutu and Grecea, along with Molly Chapman and Freya Redfearn from England.

Andrea and Carbon came on the wrong end of a three set match, but their opponents proved too strong with an 8-21 win in the third. As for the English pair, Chapman and Redfearn, also took their opponents to a third set but lost 14-21.

England win Gold in the Men’s Doubles!

English pair, William Jones and Ethan Van Leeuwen were just too strong for fellow European opponents Marc Cardona and Miguel San Luis from Spain with a victory in the final over two sets, 21-19 and 21-18.

For the mixed doubles, it was number seven seeds Brian Holtschke and Miranda Wilson from Germany who took the top spot after a comfortable win over Mihaijo Tomic and Marija Sudimac from Serbia, over two sets, 21-10 and 21-13.

Incredibly, no participant in the top five seeds made it into a final, in any of the categories, but overall a very good tournament for Europe, being on every category podium.
