Jan Ø. Jørgensen is making a comeback at the individual European Championships after a period with a heel spur in the right heel.

The Danish men’s singles player made his official comeback on court last month at the 2018 European Men’s Team Championships in Kazan, where he helped the team to win the gold.

Now, with this wild card Jan Ø. Jørgensen will also be able to go for a medal at individual event as well. Jørgensen won the gold in 2014, has a silver from 2016, but missed the 2017 European Championships, hosted in his home country of Denmark, due to his injury.

After reaching the final in Swiss Open only a couple a weeks ago and his performance in Kazan, he seems to be finding his way back to the top of his game.

- Jan has made great progress after his long-term injury. His performance and level on court at Swiss Open, for one thing, has convinced us that he can reach a level for the European Championships in about two months, that justifies his draft. And at this time he will be a realistic candidate for a European medal, said Jens Meibom, Sports Director for Badminton Denmark.

Four wild cards in total
Badminton Europe has today announced a total of four wild cards for the 2018 European Championships, which concludes with the wild card in men’s singles for Jørgensen.

Denmark’s mixed doubles of Joachim Fischer and Alexandra Bøje accepted a wild card in mixed doubles, while Sara Peñalver will be the women’s singles wild card in Huelva. And the new German pair of Olga Konon and Linda Efler have also accepted the offer for a wild card in women’s doubles.

The European Championships are only 41 days from now and the seeding will be published on April 6th, while the draws will follow on April 10th.
