The 2017 European U17 Championships has come to an end after nine days of badminton in Sport Hall Sterboholy, in Czech Republic.

It has been some chilly days in the Czech capital, but inside the hall Europe’s best U17 players competed intensely for the European U17 medals.

The tournament started out with the team competition from 21-25 November and concluded with the individual event from 25-29 November.

- I believe that the organizing committee is satisfied with the tournament overall, and I am very satisfied as well about the whole organization behind the tournament, Martin Osička President of the Czech Badminton Federation told Badminton Europe.

Preparation for the World Juniors in 2019
Osička believes that hosting this event has been good preparation for other events, which, for the Czech badminton federation, will include the 2019 BWF World Junior Championships.

- We are very happy that this tournament could be held here because I think that for Czech Badminton Federation and Czech badminton it is good advertisement.

The sport of badminton in Czech Republic is benefitting from events like this, and a local TV broadcaster aired for 90 minutes from the final’s day of the individual competition.

Various winners
At his year’s U17 championships the winners have been spread to five European nations, which is a lot more compared to only Denmark and Ireland in 2016.

The Czech team also benefited from the tournament according to the Czech President:

- I am very happy about the results for the Czech team. The 5th place is a good result for us and for me it’s a good preview of the future to come because two or three players who played here will play in the U17 championships next year, as well.
