The 2017 Scottish Open Grand Prix came to a close yesterday, a tournament, which saw major success for the Dutch team.

On the final day, Dutch players were present in three out ofthe five finals.

The final day began with Dutch women’s doubles pair Selena Pink and Cheryl Seinen going onto secure the first victory for the Netherlands. In a long match consisting of three games and 58 minutes, the girls won the final two games comfortably 21-15, 21-11.

Following the women’s doubles was the men’s doubles, which saw two Dutch pairs face off against each other. The number seven seeds Jelle Maas and Robin Tabeling against the number eight seeds, Jacco Arends and Ruben Jille.

The number seven seeds were just too good on the day as Maas and Tabeling went onto win in two games 21-11, 21-15.

Great day for Piek and Arends
The final appearance from the Dutch team was in the mixed doubles.

After winning the women’s doubles earlier on in the day, Selena Piek was up again with partner Jacco Arends. A match Arends would be hoping to have more success in than earlier in the day when he missed out on winning the mens doubles.

Being ranked number six seeds, they were up against the number four seeds from Denmark, Mikkel Mikkelsen and Mai Surrow.

But the Dutch pair weren’t taking any chances and went on to win in two games 21-10, 21-10, in what was the shortest match of the day at just 27 minutes.

- I am very, very happy
After winning two titles at the tournament, Selena Piek spoke to Badminton Europe about her tournament:

- I’m obviously very, very happy taking two titles with me back home. It has been a great tournament not only for me but for the Dutch federation in general. Becoming a champion twice here whilst beating higher ranked couples means a lot to us as well, it’s a great confidence booster after suffering from my injury.”

She also spoke very highly of the tournament saying:

- I really enjoyed playing here as the tournament itself is so well organised and the volunteers are very helpful in every way, it makes playing a lot more enjoyable for us.”
