The entry deadline for the 2017 European U17 Championships (EU17C17) is over and Badminton Europe (BEC) is excited to announce that a whopping amount of 37 countries has signed up.

EU17C17 will be organized in Prague, Czech Republic, from 21-29 November 2017. And today it was announced that 37 out of 52 Member Associations will be gathered to compete in both a team and individual event.

Jimmy Andersen, senior manager at Badminton Europe, is content with the support.

- We are extremely happy to see so many of our Member Associations are supportive by entering our events.

A new record
- It is exciting for Badminton Europe that we are breaking the record for countries entering the U17 championships, says Peter Tarcala, chair of BEC’s Major Events Commission.

The reason for the growth is according to him in the popularity of the sport.

Last year the number of registered teams were 32, and Jimmy Andersen sees how the popularity affects the level:

- The level in Europe is continuously growing and badminton is clearly developing on a higher level in more and more countries. With an event like the one we see in Prague in November, we will experience more countries having the chance of reaching good results, maybe even winning a medal.

List of countries participating at EU17C17:
Austria, Belgium, Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, England, Spain, Estonia, Faroe Islands, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Iceland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Scotland, Slovenia, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, and, Ukraine.

The draw for the team event will be conducted and published on Tuesday 12 September 2017.
