Badminton Europe is delighted to unveil the host for the European Junior Championships in 2018. In close cooperation with Badminton Estonia, we are very excited to welcome the best junior players from the continent to Tallinn, from 7-16 September 2018.

Badminton Estonia is annually hosting the international tournaments Yonex Estonian International in Tallinn and Yonex Estonian Junior in Tartu, which are both successful tournaments that have been part of the BEC Circuits for years. Badminton Europe is therefore proud to allocate one of its Major Events to Badminton Estonia, for the first time ever.

“Our European Junior Championships is a very important event for European badminton. This is where the best talents from Europe compete before reaching senior level and, often, this is when the new stars are born. The championship is a ten-day event with two parts; a team event and an individual tournament. Badminton Europe’s Board of Directors and Major Events Commission are certain that Badminton Estonia has the experience and capacities necessary to carry such a large event, and we are excited to see what Tallinn has to offer next year” says Jimmy Andersen, Senior Manager at Badminton Europe.

“Furthermore, we are happy to announce that the launch of the BEC Shadow Programme, in November alongside the 2017 European U17 Championships in Prague (CZE), will involve a key staff member of the organizing group behind the 2018 European Junior Championships in Estonia, so we are very happy that we are able to connect two of our Major Events through one of our Member Associations support programmes. We believe this will be a great benefit for not only our events – but also for our Member Associations.”

The 2018 European Junior Championships (#EJC18) will be conducted in ‘Kalev Sport Hall’ which has been one of the main sport halls in Tallinn since 1962. It was completely renovated from February 2016 to May 2017, and after it’s reopening it has hosted a World Championships qualification tournament in volleyball.

This year, the European Junior Championships was successfully organised in Mulhouse, France, where the hosting country won the trophy in the team event and two gold medals in the individual competition. Next year, the Estonian top junior players like Karl Kert and Mari Ann Karjus can look forward to competing on their home turf.

Join us in Tallinn from 7-16 September 2018, to find out who the new junior champions will be.
