Thursday 13 July was the last day with full training for the players, and the last day before the coaches are presenting their final delivery. The 2017 BEC Summer School is slowly coming to an end, but here was still a lot to do.

The players were stepping on it all day with a training session in the morning, a training session in the afternoon followed by matches after dinner, in the evening. This day was also conclusion for the days of training as a team tournament will commence the following day.

Module 10 and 11 of Coach Education Level 2, was the main occupation by the coaches during the morning session. They covered performance factors 5 and 6 called ‘Sport Psychology’ and ‘Lifestyle’, where the learning outcome, for example, should be to: appreciate the boundaries for different applications of sports psychology; describe the psychological methods that can be applied coaching; provide basic nutritional advice for pre, during and post-competition and training; describe the importance of the player-coach-parent relationships. (From Coaches’ Manual Level 2, p. 177 & 201).

Before lunch, the coaches observed the staff coaches as they delivered training for the players. Like previously during the week, this ‘shadow’ session is a great way for the coaches to see methods of training in action.

Then in the afternoon, the coaches had their last opportunity to deliver a training session to the players. The staff coaches Jeroen van Dijk and Tom Causer followed up by giving feedback to the coaches before the final delivery the next day.
