The first Euro School Championship to include the sport of badminton will be next year, in 2017.

The event is very positive for the development of badminton in schools, which is something Badminton Europe value highly in, among others, the Sport for All Commission.

Two years ago, the President of the International School Federation, Laurent Petrynka made a presentation during the Badminton Europe Members Forum in Paris. The National School Federation of France, the French Badminton School Federation, and the International School Sport Federation (ISF) have collaborated and are now ready to welcome European schools in Clermont Ferrand from 16-21 June, 2017.

The tournament will be a mixed team event for players born in 2003 and 2004. And the competition is open to both school teams and national delegations in accordance with the regulations.

For badminton to be included in the championships, offers a great opportunity to create friendly relations between the national federations as well as the school federations. New friendships can easily arise across cultures and expand the intercultural perspective of young kids.

Badminton is the perfect combination of an individual sport that still has the elements of being part of a team. It is also one of the few sports where boys and girls can compete together on court; in a mixed double. And this factor is reinforced due to the fact that the tournament will be a mixed team event, where the teams will play best out of five matches:one mixed double, one boys' single, one girls' single, one boys' double, and one girls' double.

Badminton Europe is very excited to follow this event next year in France.
