World champion Carolina Marin (pictured below) advances to the quarterfinals of the Singapore Open (350.000 Dollars), extending her dominance with a straight win over Thailand's Nitchaon Jindapol.

Despite fighting a flu she caught last week and a roll of her left ankle in her match yesterday, Marin, the number one seed in Singapore, remained untroubled, beating Nitchaon Jindapol 21-19, 21-15 (48 minutes).

She said: "I had a good performance yesterday and today and did really good during the match. Now (my ankle) is a little bit painful. "I've got chronic injury in my ankle so I have to take care of it."

Marin's semifinal opponent will be Akane Yamaguchi of Japan, who outlasted Michelle Li of Canada in three games.



Chris and Gabby Adcock on fire

England's husband and wife duo Chris and Gabby Adcock (pictured) reached the last 8 stage of the Superseries event as they beat Chin Baek Cheol/Chae Yoo Jung of Korea 21-17, 21-9.

The Adcocks next play Indonesians Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir (#1), who ousted Lee Yong Dae/Lee So Hee of Korea 21-17, 21-12.

Zwiebler, Axelsen and Vittinghus out

Earlier, former European Champion Marc Zwiebler lost to Hong Kong's Ng Ka Long Angus in two games 15-21, 21-23. Also Hans-Kristian Vittinghus was sent out crashing as the Dane was defeated by Indonesia's Tommy Sugiarto 21-14, 21-16.

„I lost to Tommy Sugiarto who played really well today - now it's time to go home!“, was the short message Vittinghus wrote to his fans on his official Facebook profile.

Viktor Axelsen was knocked out in the second after a three-game match against Korea's Wan Son Ho on Thursday. The 22-year-old Dane lost 21-14, 12-21, 7-21 to an opponent he dominated just a few weeks ago at the India Open Superseries.

Denmark's world No. 5 Jan Ø. Jørgensen was the highest-profile who crashed out at an early stage of the competition, going down 16-21, 20-22 to Japan's world No. 26 Sho Sasaki in the opening round.
