The nominees for the first ever BEC Athletes Commission election are out. Badminton Europe Confederation (BEC) is conducting the votings from today (22nd January) via email while an official voting during the 2016 European Men´s & Women´s Team Championships in Kazan, Russia will take place for the players who wish to cast their votes in person.

Ernesto Velàzquez from Spain is automatically elected as one of the BEC Athletes Commission member. This is in accordance with Rules 3.3. of the BEC Athlete Representation guidelines which states ´At least one male and one female Commission Member must be elected. In the event that there is only one male or one female player nominated, that male or that female shall automatically be elected to the BEC Athletes Commission´. Congratulations, Ernesto and welcome to the team.

“We (the Board of Directors) unanimously agreed to this initiative (to have a BEC Athletes Commission) as we care for the players´ ideas and their well being. By having this commission, it brings the players closer to the BEC governance. I personally look forward to meet the elected members of this commission and I wish them all the best in the election period. We look forward to working together to improve European badminton”; stated
Gregory Verpoorten, BEC President when asked about the BEC Athletes Commission´s development. The BEC President was present at the Board of Directors and Commissions Meetings which took place last weekend in Copenhagen.
The deadlines for the voting are:
17 February 2016 - Voting forms can be submitted by eligible players either via e-mail to players@badmintoneurope.com (passport proof to be attached)
18 February 2016 - Voting forms can be handed in to the BEC Tournament Office for the 2016 European Men’s & Women’s Team Championships in Kazan, Russia from 13.00-17.00 local time.
