Denmark’s Peter Rasmussen (pictured) is crowned world champion in the +40 age group as he defeats Jürgen Koch of Austria in the BWF World Senior Championship final today.

It was almost 20 years ago, in Glasgow, when Peter Rasmussen sensationally won the World Championships title in the men’s singles in a dramatic match against China’s Sun Jun. Now, the former European Champion (2002) added another world’s title to his collection as he is also a world senior champion. In today’s final, the Danish number one seed beat Jürgen Koch (AUT) 21-17, 21-11 in 37 minutes to win the gold medal.

In the men’s doubles (+40) Peter Rasmussen had to settle for silver. Together with former world class player Thomas Stavngaard, Rasmussen lost to Indonesia’s Hariyanto Arbi/Tri Kusharjanto 19-21, 17-21 after 27 minutes of play.

Former Russian number one shuttler Stanislov Pukhov won the gold medal in the +35 category. He beat Thorsten Hukriede of Germany in straight games 21-13, 21-16.
