A letter of intent was signed between Badminton Europe (BEC) and the National Badminton Federation of Russia (NBFR) to host the 2016 European Men’s and Women’s Team Championships and the 2016 European U15 Championships in Kazan, Russia. Both tournaments will be held at the same time.

The letter was signed by the Vice President of Badminton Europe, Andrey Antropov, the President of the Tatarstan Badminton Federation, Yuri Chaplygin and the General Secretary of Badminton Europe, Brian Agerbak.

The 2014 event in Basel was for the first time staged alongside the, then newly inaugurated, European U15 Championships. The idea behind this new concept is to inspire the young badminton generation with giving them the unique chance to use the same facilities as badminton world class players.

The National Badminton Federation of Russia proved to be a very reliable and professional organizer of international badminton events in the past few years. The 2014 INTERSPORT European Championships. for example, was successfully held this year in Kazan, Russia.
